Mahala Mullins and Vardy

We took a trip out to the Vardy Community Historical Society a while back, and I don't think I ever shared some of the pictures from that jaunt. It's quite an interesting place -- lots of history involving the mysterious Melungeon people and the infamous Mahala Mullins, the "catchable but not fetchable" big-time moonshiner from way back in the day.

Her cabin used to sit atop Newman Ridge, and legend has it that she was so fat when she died that they had to remove a wall to get her out and bury her on her homestead.

They've since disassembled her cabin from the mountaintop and reassembled it in a more accessible location as part of this historical site.

Nope, Jay didn't tag this himself.
