i jumped on the jarred salad bandwagon

Like I've said before, Pinterest can be a very weird site to encounter. The descriptions on some pins are most amusing. "Why didn't I think of that before!", being the most common. Or, "BEST RECIPE EVER!!!" in uppercase letters with lots of exclamation points. A lot of the recipes there consist of a cream-of-whatever canned soup and a list of superflous ingredients. I would wager that approximately 50% of the pinned instructions/recipes I find on that site and actually try are absolute fails. In fact, I have a "secret" board (yes, that's a new thing on that site) entitled "Done That", with my own notes on whether I would repeat such recipe/project/whathaveyou, and I promise you that most of them I won't repeat.

Anywho, I tried out the ever-popular salad-in-a-jar thing today. There are various interpretations of this, but I went with 1) veggies on the bottom, 2) meats/cheeses in the middle, and 3) greens on the top. I opted to skip the dressing step that goes at the very bottom of the jar because I usually make dressing fresh (like this one) and then store it in bottle for when needed. The thought of dressing sitting at the bottom of a canning jar, mingling with my produce, cheese and meat, kinda grosses me out. So yea, I'll let you know in five days (the timeframe touted on any salad-in-a-jar recipe for maximum keeping time) what the outcome is.

What I included in my salad-in-a-jar was (from bottom to top): slivered almonds, dried cranberries, red onions, carrots, celery, garbanzo beans, feta cheese, salame, and romaine lettuce.

HOWEVER. I did find a pretty fucking delicious burger bun recipe on Pinterest today. This got all of five-out-of-five stars by my in-house taste testers. Win!

  1. Do not (DO NOOOOOT) try the home made dishwasher detergent recipe! LOL!!! Talk about a disaster! It left such a film on my dishes I had to soak them in scalding hot water and vinegar and hand wash to get it off!!
I"d love to see a list of all the Pinterest fails.....

    1. Haha, I don't have a dishwasher but that sounds like it made "the list"! Funny.
